You Are Right Where You Need To Be in the Waiting Place

Updated: Oct 24, 2024

Woman with outstretched arms by the sunset

Are you facing a change, a transition, a big decision, a turning point? Maybe, like me, you’re standing in the waiting place, waiting to get from here to there.

You may be in between jobs, careers, homes, schools, relationships, or stages of life. Or you may be between behaviors, habits, goals, routines, feelings, or stages of grief.

Maybe you let go of something familiar and comfortable but don’t yet have the next thing in hand. You don’t quite know yet where life is taking you.

You may think you’re moving in the right direction but feel like you’re getting nowhere at the same time. You’re in the waiting place.

You might feel empty, alone, or lost in this moment, like you’re the only one in this waiting place.

I know the feeling and am right there with you. I feel the fear, anxiety, grief, doubt, and uncertainty that come with being in the waiting place. These feelings are normal.

But have faith. You are exactly where you need to be. You are moving towards something good, something meant for you, something God has planned for you.

There is nothing more you need to do in this present moment. You are right where you need to be in the process, in your growth, your transition, your change, your decision-making.

You are doing everything you need to do at the right time. You are following the guidance you are given, trusting the voice inside you that nudges you in the direction of your next step.

Sometimes you are just waiting. Waiting for the pieces to fall into place, the next opportunity to open up, the answers to become clear.

While you are waiting, you are changing and growing and getting ready for the next step.

Let go of fears about the future and regrets of the past. None of them matter because you can’t change them now.

All you have control over is the present moment. The here and now.

Let go of the ‘what ifs’. They don’t serve you. Try this on instead…

What if it turns out even better than you could possibly imagine?

Let that sink in. Our minds naturally take us to the worst case scenario. Our brains are designed to focus on negativity to help us survive danger. But you are safe in the waiting place.

Possibility, hope, anticipation, excitement, and curiosity also exist in the waiting place.

Imagine how good things might actually turn out!

Cultivate gratitude for how far you have come, for how much you have grown, for all that has been given to you, for the answers that are yet to come.

Trust that God is leading you where you need to go. Have confidence that his plan is right and good, better than you could ever hope or imagine. He’s the God of possible.

His timing is perfect. Not our timing, and not our desire for a quick solution to ease the discomfort of being in the waiting place. He is the master planner and is working things out for your good. He has the answers and will reveal them to you according to his plan.

Don’t try to ‘make things happen’, to force solutions, to control the situation. This only causes us to become anxious, irritable, and unreasonable. It doesn’t get us where we are going any faster, only robs us of our serenity.

Feel the feelings, listen for guidance, trust your intuition, and take the next right step.

You are right where you need to be in the waiting place. You have everything you need.

Just be in this moment.
